The new arrivals at Coach feature an explosion of florals in...
The brand’s Vandal Gummy collection, created in collaboration with New York street artist WhIsBe, puts a gummy bear behind bars.
You’ve never seen confectionary like this. Coach’s newly arrived collection, available in the Village from August, puts a grittier spin on the whimsical gummy bear thanks to the ‘Vandal Gummy’ design created by Brooklyn-based street artist WhIsBe.
The contemporary artist – whose moniker stands for ‘what is beauty’ – draws inspiration from Andy Warhol's use of commercial imagery (think Campbell's soup can) and Jean-Michel Basquiat's disruption of public spaces with his graffiti work. For this unique collaboration WhIsBe’s urban aesthetic is overlaid with Coach’s signature C pattern and printed across a range of handbags, accessories and ready-to-wear pieces.
This season, camouflage felt like the natural backdrop for WhIsBe's gummy bear not just because they both share warm tones, but because the camouflage has a graffiti feel to it. These styles are easy to wear since the two motifs naturally blend well together.
Art mavens will have spotted the 20-foot mug shot of Vandal Gummy in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which was put on display when the collaboration first launched. Now, fans of the graffiti-inspired style can covet the exclusive collection from Coach.
The collection’s many handbag options let you add a touch of cool to any outfit. For the brand’s signature canvas styles, Vandal Gummy has been screen-printed on top of Coach’s logo to create an everyday hero with maximum durability, while the pebble leather design has also been embossed for added dimension and texture. If Vandal Gummy isn’t sweet enough for your style, opt for the cotton twill version, which features the mug shot against a pretty floral backdrop.
